Just a Little Introduction

This will be my first attempt at blogging, so bear with me. My main goal is to keep my friends and family updated on how life is treating me in Ankara. I’ve read a lot of travel blogs that deal with men and women quitting their fancy (but possibly boring) corporate jobs to travel the world, and that leads to incredibly inspiring experiences, but it’s not the only way to go about things. I hope to use this blog to give advice on living a more international and intercultural life, whether it be academic, personal or professional.

Roughly eight months ago, I graduated from Florida State University, where I studied economics and international affairs. I went into college as an international affairs major because I honestly wasn’t quite sure what else I would study, and I liked the idea of learning about (and later working with) different kinds of people. This all most likely came from doing Model United Nations in middle school, going to an International Baccalaureate high school, and my first trip to Europe in 2007. I spent the spring of 2014 in Paris, France, and the summers of 2013 and 2014 in Washington, D.C. (a city that you’ll find me to be obsessed with).

With that out of the way, I can now tell you that packing for 10 months abroad is no joke. I don’t know how many times I’ve gone to Walmart now; my packing list is never-ending. I’m the type of person who loves planning and making “things to do” lists. However, I can already tell that Turkey is going to try me left and right. Let’s see how I do…
